Before you buy another iPhone.

A model name is only the beginning. A useful buying decision starts with the phone you need and the terms you can actually accept.

Identify the exact model

Open Settings, General, About and tap the part number to reveal the model number. Check it against Apple's model identification reference. Regional variants deserve attention before you commit.

Verify your U.S. carrier fit

Ask your carrier to confirm compatibility for the exact device and your plan. Check SIM or eSIM requirements rather than assuming an imported phone is interchangeable.

Read the deal as a total cost

Compare the device price, required service plan, financing term, trade-in conditions and return window. A monthly offer is not the whole purchase.

For a used device, verify condition

Ask about battery condition, repairs, warranty, returns and whether the device can be activated by you. Use Apple's preowned-iPhone checklist before completing a purchase.

Buy accessories for the exact model

Confirm case fit and connector compatibility. A shared family name does not guarantee fit across models.
